Disgrace for the Sake Of Christ

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25  He chose to be ill-treated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.  26  He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.  Hebrews 11:24-26

These verses have really jumped off the pages for me this week.  Moses grew up in Pharaoh's palace.  He was brought up in royalty with all the wealth, power and prestige of the king's son.  He had a bright future in Egypt.  But one day all that changed when he chose to serve the living God rather than enjoy the ease and comfort of the royal life.   What if Moses were living today?   What if he decided that God wanted him to be healthy, wealthy and wise?  What if he followed the teachings of many contemporary preachers who have made a name for themselves by convincing millions that God's greatest desire is to give his people a life of ease, comfort, pleasure, and happiness?   I came across the following video from Mark Driscoll in which he considers this very point.   The point here is not to attack anyone personally but to consider the truth of the gospel.   I am looking forward to a day when I will reign with Christ in glory.  Until then we make it our goal to please him.
