My Dad and I

Dad n Me Hunting I have had the awesome privilege of hunting with my Dad for the last several days.  My Dad instilled in me a love for the outdoors and bow hunting in particular.   We spent several days hunting, had several opportunities to take good deer, and in the end I harvested a small buck.

More than hunting, my dad instilled in me a love for Christ and the church.   Two of his brothers are pastors while my Dad is a carpenter.  However he has served the church just the same.   He showed me how to serve the Lord as a lay leader, elder, deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher, etc.   In fact he gave me my first job in the church.  Each Sunday I was responsible to put a glass of cold water on the pulpit for our Pastor.  Doesn't seem like much, but I learned early that we are all servants of the living God.   Life has taken us down many different roads.  Some have been difficult, yet through it all we have trusted our savior and we know that God will always be good.   I hope I can pass on a love for the church and the Savior like my Dad.  By the way, my grandparents passed on the faith to my Dad. They chose to love and serve Christ and created a legacy of faith for the entire Thompson family.

I often comment on how glad I am that we had wonderful Christian parents who taught us how to serve the Lord. When I see both my children serving in our church and see how much your children serve, I realize we have been truly blessed by the Lord.

What a great post, Tom! Is there a link between the hunting and loving Christ? Or were you hinting that you'd like someone to leave a cup of cold water on the pulpit? Just kidding, of course!

It is such an honor & blessing to be part of such a legacy, isn't it? Not to mention the responsibility of continuing to pass it on! It's awesome the way little things (like helping provide water for the pastor) can leave such lasting impressions!
